Florida made some big changes to the coaching staff after losing to South Carolina last week. A new defensive play-caller doesn’t mean the Gators will change up the personnel on the field, though. No changes were made in this week’s pre-game depth chart, but certain players may be more or less active than they were a week ago.
The first name is one that’s talked about every Saturday the Gators suit up, Anthony Richardson. The explosive freshman quarterback has won the hearts of many in Gator Nation this year, or maybe it’s that Emory Jones has fallen out of favor with the Florida faithful. Either way, Richardson is seen as the future of Gators football so long as he doesn’t transfer.
An injury sustained while dancing the night before last week’s game held him out against Sout Carolina, but head coach Dan Mullen said that he should be available this week.
Another name to look out for is defensive tackle Daquan Newkirk. Florida has struggled with injuries at defensive tackle and needs as much depth as it can get at the position. An ankle injury took him down last week and there hasn’t been any concrete update on him since. Facing an FCS opponent might be the right time to rest Newkirk up if he isn’t at 100%.
