Fans, film personalities and critics around the country have been applauding ’83’, which chronicles India’s win under Kapil Dev’s captainship when the team defeated West Indies in the final to clinch their first-ever World Cup trophy in 1983.
Now Indian brand, Amul has also joined the bandwagon and dedicated a doodle to the film’s cast to celebrate their success.
The brand shared the doodle with caption, “Kappeals to everyone!”, a clever node to legend cricketer Dev. “Amul Topical: Movie ‘83’ based on India’s spectacular World Cup victory!” the tweet read.

The film’s lead star Ranveer Singh also shared the doodle on his official Instagram account. Presented by Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films, the film hit cinema halls on December 24 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
On Wednesday night, the makers of ’83’ makers held a grand premiere in Mumbai. The special screening was attended by film-maker Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Mini Mathur, Janhvi Kapoor, and Rohit Shetty and others.
After watching the Kabir Khan directorial, Johar took to his Instagram handle to heap praises on the film.
“It’s not easy to tell a true story … an actual account of a milestone event in Indian Sport History! There is no room for cinematic licenses and distortion of facts for dramatic impact… which is exactly why #83thefilm is such a monumental achievement ….” Johar wrote.
The film-maker said that the film beautifully captivates the viewers, teleporting him or her to the year of 1983.
“It sucks you into that year… that World Cup , that team , that political climate , that mad fandom frenzy… I saw myself rooting for every member of that historic team… Laughing and crying with each one of them …,” the film-maker added.
The film, which has also been declared tax-free in Delhi, was also a hit with cricketer Virat Kohli and his actress wife Anushka Sharma.
The couple took to their respective social media handles to laud the film.
“A magical moment in India’s sporting history brought to life so beautifully by the entire team of #83TheFilm,: Sharma wrote on her Instagram Stories.
The actress also thanked the director and actor Singh for letting the newer generations relive India’s victory through this film.
“Kabir Khan, thank you for letting the newer generations relive this through your film and @RanveerOfficial, what can I say? You are just superlative in the film. Not a single false note from you in any frame, just sheer brilliance on your part. Loved all performances equally! Well played team 83,” she added.
Sharma’s husband and cricketer Kohli also praised the makers of ’83’ for depicting the true story with real conviction.
“Couldn’t have relived the most iconic moment of Indian cricket history in a better manner. A fantastically made movie which immerses you in the events and the emotion of the world cup in 1983. Splendid performances as well,” he tweeted.
